As a student engaged in culinary pursuit I was not able to identify a single basic dominant element or a feature in Turkish cuisine like the Italian "Pasta" or French "Sauce". I went there looking forward to eating Turkish Kebabs' or some Turkish delights. There I discovered that Turkish cuisine to be a unique culmination of middle eastern and European cuisines. Upon entering a modest "Baklava' shop. I saw at least a dozen varieties of sophisticated sweet pastries, with names like the 'Sultan Turban' or a or a 'Nightingale Nest'. Turkey has an abundance of flora fauna and spices. These coupled with the legacy of the Royal Ottoman Empire has led to the evolution of a grand refined cuisine.
What is the traditional dessert of Turkey besides baklava ?
